La Escuela de Terapia Física y Ocupacional
de 1965 hasta 1992 egresó 22 Terapeutas
Ocupacionales, dejando de ofertar esta
carrera, pues en el año de 1976 por
iniciativa del Fisioterapeuta Mario Ricardo
Pellecer Badillo, en La Escuela de Ciencias
Psicológicas, propone la formación de las
Carreras Técnicas paralelas a la formación
del licenciado en Psicología, la primera
que inició su función fue el Profesorado de
Enseñanza Media en Psicología y de ella se
derivaron en la propuesta académico otras
cuatro carreras técnicas que son Terapia de
Lenguaje, Terapia Ocupacional y Recreativa,
Profesorado de Educación Especial y
Orientación Vocacional y Laboral; las que
son aprobadas por el Consejo Superior
Universitario, en el Acta Nueve Ochenta
y Uno (9-81), Punto Sexto, inciso Sesenta
y tres (6.63) del mes de marzo de 1981
(Escuela de Ciencias Psicológicas, 1987).
El concepto que se manejaba de la Terapia
Ocupacional era un tratamiento rehabilitador
prescrito por el médico y llevado a cabo por
un Terapista Ocupacional graduado, utilizando
técnicas activas en el orden físico, psíquico,
social y económico, agrupando las actividades
a realizar en actividades personales de la vida
cotidiana, actividades expresivas y creativas,
actividades intelectuales y docentes, actividades
intelectuales y vocacionales y actividades
recreativas (Jiménez, 1986), siendo un medio
para restaurar el funcionamiento de la persona
en general, funciones especícas, independizar
a una persona con una discapacidad
permanente, como medida proláctica, en
procesos de disfunción psicológica, pero no se
aplicará en procesos agudos, sino cuando la
persona esté en condición de participar en su
propia rehabilitación. (Jiménez S., 1999).
Los fundadores de la carrera eran
provenientes de la Escuela de Terapia
Física y Ocupacional, siendo ellos los
sioterapistas, Mario Pellecer, Juan José
Zaghi y Luis Rodolfo Jiménez y la Terapeuta
ocupacional Miriam Colon, egresada de la
misma escuela, acompañados del Licenciado
en Psicología Raúl Moraga; en el año 1977
se redactaron los programas de las carreras
técnicas y la combinación de la sioterapia
y terapia ocupacional, es un binomio
que justica la formación universitaria
paralela en la rehabilitación (Zaghi, 1986),
a pesar que dentro del equipo había una
terapeuta ocupacional y un psicólogo,
tres de los profesionales fundadores eran
sioterapeutas, la formación se inclinó hacia
el área física, tomando en cuenta contenidos
de terapia ocupacional curativa, diversional,
entrenamiento en actividades de la vida
diaria, aparatos de autoayuda, provisión
de férulas, atención prevocacional y visitas
domiciliarias, impartiendo los cursos de
forma anual, siendo las materias Teoría de
la Terapia Ocupacional I, II y III y Práctica de
Terapia Ocupacional I, II y III.
En la Terapia de la Terapia Ocupacional I
se abordaban temas de Anatomía humana,
evaluación musculoesquelética, concepto
de la terapia ocupacional, análisis de la
actividad, ferulaje, historia clínica y algunos
diagnósticos como parálisis cerebral. En
la práctica al inicio del año se adquirían
experiencias en actividades terapéuticas
manuales, elaborando varios proyectos y
práctica de observación en diferentes centros
