The objective of this article is to carry out a critical review of the results of the study "Initial Profile in Guatemalan Mental Health" published as a degree thesis in 2006. Despite its important limitations and theoretical-methodological gaps, it allows opening the discussion about the need to carry out studies on the subject. Said profile can be considered as one of the first systematic research exercises in the country, however, its little diffusion makes it practically unknown. At the end, a comparison is proposed with the results of the "National Mental Health Survey" elaborated by the Faculty of Medical Sciences in 2009, which is better known, and a discussion on theoretical and methodological aspects relevant to the investigation of the mental health of Guatemalan women. and Guatemalans, as a pending task of psychology in Guatemala.
